Personal Stuffs

My eyes slowly opened to the distinct sound of glass crashing. My brother was woken up from the same sound. We both approached the living room, where you could hear a faint cry and pant. There was my mother, with blood seeping from her small flesh wounds. She held a knife in one hand, she had obviously grabbed from the kitchen and made a signal for me and my brother to yield in the hallway with the other. She yelled out to my brother saying something I couldnt make out.I was completely stuck. My brother pulled me back and called my aunt. She arrived promptly, just as the police did.We packed our bags and headed off, never to see my mother again for a long period of time.Later raised in a single parent home, watching my mother struggle with two children, and an previously abusive husband, I learned the true meaning of self worth.Due to the previous attack and the divorce between my mother and father,I was forced to relocate.I began attending Frank D. Parent Elementary School weeks later, while my brother remained at his previous middle school. The first day I arrived alone. My mother, being a single parent ,worked constantly throughtout the day. Here I was,a linky 7 year old, alone on the first day of school.Children chuckled and talked with their parents, while I sat alone in the back. From this moment on,I knew I wouldnt fit in.I went from outspoken, charismatic and friendly to timid, depressed and discouraged. My grades sunk to an all time low,and I struggled with committing to my academics.Every subject grade I once excelled in got worse, just as my self confidence did. It wasnt until seventh grade that i realized that education was the essential key to my success in life. it all dawned on me after meeting a teacher named Mr. Mackey.  Due to the poor decision of being disruptive in class i was given detention and was forced to stay after.During my confinment he gave me constructive criticism which allowed to confide in him. it was the first time in many years that I actually felt that someone cared.  Mr. Mackey offered me tutoring to help me catch up in the rest of my classes and from then on my work habbits showed a dramatic improvement in all areas of learning. by the end of second semester my grade point average went from a 2.1 to a miraculous 3.4. After achieving such level of improvement I was reccommended to the national honors society. Thanks to some words of encouragment and using those words to help better myself I gained self worth and the tools needed to improve my over all personal issues that I had struggled with from the past. this experience taught me that you can accomplish anything through self confidence and understanding.
